Abstract
For the past five years (Sept. 1957~Sept. 1962) 1,220 patients who had had a history of gastrointestinal trouble were hospitalized or se-n in the outpatient department at Pusan University Hospital. Among them, however, except for recognized organic changes or ascariasis, selected 11) cases (9%) of so-called gastric neuroses were analyzed clinically and roentgenologically. The details were as follows:
1. Age incidence of patients with gastric neuroses:
3~4)(32.7%), 41~59(23.6%), 21~30(17.3%),
The ratio between male and female showed
i, c. no significant difference.
2. Duration of disease could be described average 5 months to I year, and subjective symptoms were epigastric pain(69 %), indigestion¢¥60 % , upper abdominal discomfort 30%,anorexia,23%)and a variety of other complaints. Objective findings were few, and included slight tenderness in the epigastrium and a little nutritional disturbance to account for the subjective complaints.
3. Laboratory findings were not of particular significance. In the gastric juice analysis, 8 cases of hypo acidity, 5 cases of hyperacidity and I1 cases with normal acidity were found among the 21 specimens examined.
4. Observations on the personality of 4) cases of gastric neuroses showed that 65% were markedly neurotic and 62% could be described as having the asthenic type of body structure.
5. The measurement of gastric types to habitus and average of medians o f a¢¥ (distance between horizontal level of pylorus to the caudal pole of the stomach) revealed the following:
Hypertonic stomach ; 8.%Y, a¢¥ ; 3. 5cm
Cascade stoirach ; 13.6%, a¢¥ ; 5.0cm
Orthotonic stomach ; 20.9%, a¢¥ ; 6,0cm
Hypotonic stomach ; 36.4%, a¢¥ ; 9.5cm
Atonic(gastroptosis) ; 20 % a¢¥ ; 10.6cm
Of the 110 cases of so-called gastric neuroses, many showed a decrease in tone and motility of the stomach (63 cases`. Fewer showed an increase of tone (24 cases).
6. The sex distribution among the various gastric type, was as follows:
Hypotonic stomach ; 1:1.5(male: female)
Atonic or gastroptosis; 1:2
Hypertonic stomach ; 2:1
Cascade stomach ; 4:1
Orthotonic stomach ; 3.6:1
It means that females predominated in the hypotomic or atomic group, whereas more males were found to have hypertonic or orthotonic types of stomach. (-Author¢¥s abstract)
